SaluteDerm
SaluteDerm, an innovative two-year project aimed at developing advanced solutions for the precise diagnosis and targeted treatment of skin lesions, has been launched. The project is led by Neuro-Zone Srl as the main coordinator, in partnership with two research organizations – the Institute of Applied Research (IAR) and the LINKS Foundation – and the company Thallosjet Srl.
This project is funded under the “Aggregazioni R&S – Salute” call issued by the Department of Economic Development, Education and Employment, Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Research, Innovation, and Technology Transfer of the Aosta Valley Region.

Main Objectives
- Creating a device that leverages Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to assist dermatologists in the precise diagnosis of skin lesions. This innovative tool will enhance diagnostic accuracy, providing support to professionals in recognizing skin pathologies.
- Developing an effective active ingredient by utilizing microfluidic technology to test the efficacy of a compound derived from the whey produced during the processing of Fontina DOP cheese. This active ingredient will promote cell regeneration and wound healing, opening new opportunities for sustainable dermatological treatments.
- Constructing a bio-structure highly compatible with human skin, using proteins recovered from the waste product of the whey ultrafiltration process. This bio-structure will be incorporated into a biocompatible and potentially absorbable topical patch, which will provide mechanical support and promote wound healing through the incorporation of the active ingredient via Inkjet technology.
- Conducting in vitro tests to evaluate the efficacy of the active ingredient on cell cultures and performing functional tests of the topical patch. These activities aim to scientifically validate the effectiveness of the devices developed for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of skin conditions.
The SaluteDerm project represents a synergy between advanced technology and environmental sustainability, enhancing byproducts of the dairy industry such as the whey from Fontina DOP cheese. The collaboration between Neuro-Zone, IAR, LINKS, and Thallosjet underscores the importance of teamwork between companies and research centers to innovate in the field of dermatology.
